Overview

The contents of this training pack have been approved by Network Rail for use in the delivery and assessment of Protection Controller (PC) training, provided that the trainer is currently approved as a Track Safety Trainer in this subject.

The pack contains sufficient information to enable a course to be delivered with relatively little preparation time, however, to gain maximum benefit from this pack it is recommended that some time is used by the trainer to become familiar with the contents before its use

This course presentation can be customised to suit your delivery style and can be used in conjunction with other visual aids. Note: if you elect not to show all the slides, you must ensure that the full technical content is covered and that the learning objectives are met.

Course Summary

This course is designed to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Protection Controller competence

A Protection Controller must be appointed when a line blockage is required to be taken and shared by two or more COSSS or IWAS

The PC course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in Handbook 8 of the Rule Book, as well as highlighting the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.

The aim of the course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake Protection Controller duties in line with the Protection Controller unit of competence.
