Overview
The contents of this training pack have been approved by Network Rail for use in delivery and
assessment. The pack contains sufficient information to enable delivery with relatively little
preparation time, however to gain maximum benefit from this pack it is recommended that some time is used by the trainer to become familiar with the contents before its use. The presentation can be customised to suit your delivery style and can be used in conjunction with other visual aids. The full technical content must be delivered.
Course Summary
This course is design to train persons who have been nominated by their line manager/sponsor to enable them to attain the Senior Person in Charge of Possession (PICOP) Competence
The SPICOP competence is required to be held by anyone who is required to set up and manage a possession for the purpose of undertaking engineering works on the rail infrastructure and includes the management of multiple train movements within a possession.
The SPICOP course will take delegates through the procedures as set out in the Rule Book, Handbook 11 (Duties of the person in charge of possession), (Handbook 12 Duties of the engineering supervisor) and Handbook 13 (Duties of the person in charge of the siding).
The course includes the importance of using the correct communication protocols and adopting the appropriate behaviours to be able to carry out this role safely and effectively.
Key Aims
The aim of this course is to provide delegates with the skills and underpinning knowledge required to undertake SPICOP duties in line with the SPICOP unit of competence.
